Google business profile vs google my business is a question only because Google renamed the product and quietly changed how it works. Same listing, different name, different management surfaces, and a few new capabilities that matter in 2026.
The rename and what it means
Google retired the My Business app in 2022 and consolidated profile management directly into Google Search and Maps. The product is now called Google Business Profile, often abbreviated GBP.
The listing is the same. The management surface moved into the Search results when you are signed in as the business owner.
Where you actually manage your profile
Sign in to Google with your business email. Search for your own business name. The Google Search results show a Manage Profile panel directly in the Knowledge Panel.
The old My Business app no longer works. There is no separate dashboard for single location businesses.
For multi location businesses
Multi location accounts still use the Google Business Profile Manager dashboard at business.google.com. The bulk editor, multi user permissions, and group management all live there.
Single location businesses cannot use the dashboard. They manage everything in Search results.
API access for automation
The API remained. GMB Poster uses Google official My Business API v4 plus the My Business Account Management and Business Information APIs for authentication and discovery. WordPress posts get published into the local post feed via that API.
the GMB Poster plugin handles the OAuth flow and stores credentials encrypted with your site AUTH_KEY. None of the API change broke the integration.
What to do about it
If you used the old app, sign in to Google with your business email and use Search to manage your profile. If you manage many locations, use the Manager dashboard. Either way the underlying data is the same.
Update bookmarks. Train new staff on the new surface. Nothing else needs to change.
Frequently asked questions
Is google business profile vs google my business the same listing?
Yes. Same underlying data, different name, different management surface.
Will my old reviews migrate?
They already did. The rename was a label change, not a data migration.
Did the API endpoints change?
Names did slightly. The endpoint URLs are well documented and supported plugins handle the transition transparently.
Can I still use the old app?
No. The app was retired. Use Search results or the Manager dashboard depending on how many locations you manage.
